Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Wishlist
It's finally happened. The game I've hoped for to happen, for almost 10 years is finally happening: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Exclusive for the Switch (I got one for Smash Bros so no upsetness for me) and aimed for the summer, this highly anticipated game is likely also one that have many fans coming up fan wishlists and ideas of what they want to appear. So here's my obligatory wishlist just in time for E3 2019, despite me working on this list for months and constantly putting it off.
Keep in mind one thing: This is not the Avengers Project that Square Enix have been working on. Chances are Square Enix are working on one for Playstation 4 and X-box One (or next gen depending on release date). It's getting revealed at E3 2019 officially, but I have no idea what it is and I'm still looking forward to it.
Here are some things I want for the game that are not characters:
A Voice Cast of Fan-Favourites
This is a tricky one and one that I can for the most part live without, but it would be awesome to see a bunch of fan-favourite voice actors, like Josh Keaton for Spider-man or Colleen O'Shagnassy for the Wasp. We already have a few so far, with the voices for Nightcrawler and Magneto coming from Wolverine and the X-men and the Iron Man voice from Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes. But hey, the more the merrier.
More than One Alternate Costume Per Character
Purely a cosmetic request but still this is the Marvel Universe and so many of these characters have alternate designs and appearances that so many fans would lose their minds being able to swap in and out of while playing.
And now, my character wishlist!
First, let's get these characters out of the way: Vision and Ant Man. Because, well, they have movies and are very prominent in said movies so if they aren't in the game, then that would be ridiculous. So let's just make the safe assumption that they are in the game... and Vision is present in a blink and you'll miss it moment in the first trailer and the X-men trailer... and both characters are on promotional shirts for the game that got leaked. Whoops. Also, I put this off for so long that characters I did want ended up becoming confirmed as playable so I have to get this thing out as soon as possible or else all I will have left are lessor known characters that actually could have a chance to pop up! Also, I'm not going to include the Fantastic 4 here because, as cool as they are, I feel including all of them at launch would take slots for more deserving characters of attention in the game. Honestly, I don't believe anyone would mind the F4 just being DLC down the road. Speaking taking attention from others, I'm going to try to keep the X-men characters to a minimum, nothing against them but my biggest fear of the sudden welcoming back of the X-men for Marvel is that we are going to not see any awesome, lessor known characters from Marvel because we'll be busy getting all the major characters of the X-men instead. But for those who want X-men, here is my list of major X-men: Rogue, Gambit and Emma Frost. But also, the roster as of this date is approximately 34 playable characters (Wikipedia states Beast is playable but no official gameplay yet) and its a pretty amazing roster so far! Now onto the list.
Nova
As many know, he's one of my favourites and it appears that Marvel are starting to give him a bigger and bigger push nowadays, especially with a strong possibility for Richard Rider himself to take the reigns of his own movie. He's had some video games appearances such as Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, my introduction to the character, and then porting him over to MvCI. But it would be a welcome surprise if Nova shows up, plus Sam Alexander can just be an enhanced skin or what not.
Moon Knight
Obscure street level character with a growing fan base, this character should be in the game with all his combat prowess and neat design. Plus, hey we need some more off the wall character picks in our game rosters. It's what makes people go, "Hey, who is this? I like them. I want more of them." and maybe go check out the character in the comics.
Songbird
Again, another favourite character of mine. Plus, you get some Thunderbolts rep there along with the Inhumans and X-men, so plenty of character variety. Also, she was in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 so it's evident that she can work in this kind of game.
Quake
Made more well-known thanks to the Agents of SHIELD show, Quake would be a great fit to include in the game, especially with her use of combat and vibration/quaking abilities. Plus, with Ms Marvel and Spider-Gwen in the game, there would be the added team bonus of Marvel Rising, especially with her main role in the animated series that Marvel is pushing so her place here would add a little promotion. On another note, make Marvel Rising viewable internationally on Youtube, please. Thanks.
Ghost Rider (Any or All of Them)
So which Ghost Rider do I pick: Johnny Blaze, Robbie Reyes, or the new Cosmic Ghost Rider? Why not take advantage of the idea of enhanced costumes that can give each character a different look, voice and set of animations. This is a bit of a dream but honestly, any character could work. Plus, it's Ghost Rider! Why not bring him back in the game since his appearance in the first game? Though with the game making Miles Morales and Spider-gwen separate characters to Spider-man, there is the possibility of making separate characters of the Ghost Riders, but that might be possible as for the most part they are pretty similar. But hey, still rooting for the flaming skull dude in this game in some form, plus there are some hints thanks to the recommended reading list hopefully!
Squirrel Girl
Honestly, surprised she hasn't been featured in a major Marvel game yet. Sure, she's been in the iPhone and Lego games, but it's time for her to pop up in a game like this! Plus, all the squirrel based attacks that could be made possible here!
Phyla Vell
This is an out of left-field cosmic character, but why not? She was in the original DnA (Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning) run of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic (the line-up the movie is based on) and she could utilise her Quasar powers, her sword and even calling in her girlfriend Moondragon to transforming in a dragon and reign hell on her enemies. Plus, she's an LGBT character, so you have some much needed rep there. Among Game Informer's recommended readings was the DnA Guardians run that featured her prominently on the team, so hopefully the recommended reading is a hint of her appearance in the game.
Doctor Doom
Marvel's greatest villain of all time. Sure, he's more likely to appear as a boss, but he was playable in the first game (360 exclusive then added to the remasters) and the main villain in the first game, so bringing him in as a playable character would be a nice full circle kind of thing in the game. If needed, make him one of those unlockable characters where you need to find certain items or do a certain task outside the story to get him, it would be a good compromise to include Doom while holding off on the Fantastic 4.
Baron Zemo
Another great Marvel villain and more Thunderbolts rep. More playable villains will give this game the proper variety it needs. Plus, with all his alternate costumes, single sword and pistol blaster game style, it would be cool to include him. And before anyone says that we don't need another sword and gun character, a lot of people want Punisher in the game... who is just guns rather than where a lot of more unique and diverse characters.
Rockslide
Look, I know I said I wasn't going to include the X-men on this list but this one is a way lessor known one, plus he would be a ridiculously fun X-men. He's a mutant made of rocks and can absorb more rock and stone elements into his body. He could be a fun substitute for Colossus and Juggernaut.
Honourable mentions: Winter Soldier, Nebula, War Machine, Mantis, Super Skrull, Hobgoblin (Phil Urich), and Carnage. Would love to go into more detail, but otherwise it becomes a hundred pages long.
Well, that's it. Looking forward to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: the Black Order no matter what though. Will be interesting to see how many on the wishlist make the roster as in-game or DLC, but I'm going to be happy either way.
Thank you!
